Upledger CranioSacral Therapy

What is CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a type of bodywork that can create dynamic improvements in your life. It can help to release tensions deep in the body to relieve pain & dysfunction, improving whole-body health & performance.

Few body structures have more influence over your health & well-being than your central nervous system & few body systems have more impact on your central nervous system than the Craniosacral system - which consists of the bones, sodt tissues & fluid that surround & nurtureyour brain & spinal cord Every day our body absorbs & endures stresses & strains. But it can only handle so much tension before the tissues begin to tighten and change.

Other experiences from physical injuries to emotionalk trauma can create or add to restriction. These may radiate out from or into the CranioSacral system & can compromise the function of the central nervous & the function of other areas of the body.

CranioSacral Therapy’s light touch techniques can release these tensions to allow the entire body to relax & self-correct. By freeing the central nervous system to perform at its best, CST maybe effective for all ages.

Practitioners & clients find that it helps relieve dysfunction from many sources, often uncovering & addressing the deeper causes of our symptoms. The types of problems we find people seek treatment for are very varied but may include stress & tension related disorders, musculoskeletal pain, migraines & headaches, brain & spinal cord injuries as well as many acute & chronic conditions.

In general CranioSacral Therapy can improve oue body’s ability to take better care of us. Like many complementary approaches CST can be useful as a preventative therapy to help keep us in optimal health.

But, since Craniosacral Therapy is not prescriptive in its approach, I will always work by listening to & following what it feels your body tissues need to do, whatever condition you may be experiencing.

CST is not a replacement for appropriate medical care & if there are any concerns we recommend consulting you medical practitioner.

However said all that, if you are curious about how this approach may be helpful for you please get in touch to discusss your specific enquiries.

What can I expect from a session?

A typical CranioSacral Therapy session takes place in a quiet, relaxed setting on a comfortable treatment table. You will be fully clothed therefore it is advisable to wear something comfortable.

I will begin by evaluating the rhythm and motion of your CranioSacral system, gently listening with my hands to different parts of the body to locate areas of restrictions, in body tissues or fluid motion, for example and trace their origin.

Delicate, precise & effective manual techniques are then used to release body tissues in any problem areas. While many techniques are carried out from the head & low back (cranium & sacrum. I may also work on other parts of the body - sometimes, the places we experience ’symptoms’ are not where the root of the problem lie.

Sessions usually last an hour. Your experience from a treatment is highly individual& often changes every time. Typically, people report feelings of warmth softening or pulsing in the areas I am working on & generally they feel deeply relaxed.

I also work from the perspective that you, the client, are always in charge & that your bodyhas its own ‘inner treatment plan” - it is up to me to assist you in following it.
